A former UTC assistant football coach has been suspended at ETSU after police said he threatened to "hang with a noose" a clerk at the Residence Inn on Chestnut Street.

Jeffrey Brumett, 35, was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

In the incident on Friday night, police were told by the clerk and by witnesses that Brumett was angry because his key card did not work.

Police said he slapped his hand on the counter several times and told the clerk if the card did not work this time he would come back and kill him.

The report says he told the clerk he "would choke him, would hang him from a noose, kill him and beat him.

Police went to Brumett's room and said he smelled of an alcoholic beverage and had glassy, bloodshot eyes.
