One person was arrested and another is on the run after a vehicle sped away from sheriff deputies on Wednesday

At approximately 1:17 p.m., a sheriff K-9 deputy attempted to initiate a stop of a stolen black Toyota Celica on Highway 27 northbound in the Soddy Daisy area. The driver did not yield to the deputy's emergency equipment (blue lights and siren), which led to a pursuit on Highway 111 into Sequatchie County.

Just after entering Sequatchie County, the vehicle left the roadway and traveled through grass and onto a trail next to the highway in an attempt to further elude deputies.

The passenger, Karie Harper, was observed throwing a firearm out of the vehicle onto Highway 27 near the Hixson Pike exit, which was later recovered by deputies.  Both then fled on foot with passenger Harper being arrested at the scene.

The driver has been tentatively identified as Alvin Dale Shirley and is at large with warrants pending. Harper will be charged with resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Anyone having any information as to the whereabouts of Alvin Dale Shirley is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 423 622-0022.
