Lookout Mountain, Ga., Planning Block Party To Cheer On Ironman Athletes

  • Thursday, September 7, 2017

This weekend's Ironman is coming right through Lookout Mountain, Ga., and residents are making plans to welcome the contenders as they race past on Ochs Highway and Lula Lake Road.

Brad Haven, city manager, said, "Top tri-athletes in the world will be competing Saturday and Sunday in the World Championship Ironman 70.3. The event will include more than 4,000 top athletes from 90 countries.

"They will bike up the mountain on Ochs Highway and make a left on Lula Lake Road between 7:30 and 10 a.m. each day.

"This is a huge event for Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain.  Let’s show them some Southern hospitality and cheer them on.

"We will set up a cheering station at the corner of Red Riding Hood and Lula Lake Road. Join us and bring your friends and neighbors for two fun-filled memorable mornings on the mountain, complete with Starbucks, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Clumpies Ice Cream and music by the American Dudes."

Mr. Haven noted there will be multiple road closures and crossing stops throughout the event.

Ochs Highway, Lula Lake Road (southbound) and Red Riding Hood Trail will be closed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. both days.

All intersections will be closed on Red Riding Hood Trail with the exception of the Cinderella Road/Red Riding Hood Trail intersection.
