Aldi officials have made a final decision on the location of the company’s long-anticipated new store near Signal Mountain, according to one of the store’s prospective new neighbors.

Further, B & B Discount Sales said in an announcement on its website, the retail chain Tractor Supply has decided to expand in the same location.

“Lots of major changes going on around us,” B & B Discount Sales, located in the old K-Mart building at 680 Signal Mountain Road, announced on its website.

“Aldi Grocery will be moving in to the right of us, and Tractor Supply adjacent on our left,” B & B noted.
“This means a huge loss of our space.”

Attempts to contact Aldi and Tractor Supply spokespersons Monday evening were unsuccessful. Likewise, B & B president Duane Hixson could not be reached for comment.

On its website, however, B & B announced that it is already taking steps to prepare for the arrival of its new neighbors.

“HUGE Inventory Reduction Sale !!!” the site trumpeted.

“We are trying to reduce out inventory to get ready for this big change,” it continued. “Everything in the Signal Mountain store will be 30 percent off lowest ticketed price . . . Sale is going on now so hurry in and take advantage of this huge savings!!”

A sole proprietorship which operates another salvage store at 6210 Hixson Pike in Chattanooga , B & B has been in business since 1990, according to the Better Business Bureau website for Chattanooga .

B & B is a liquidation company which “purchases items for insurance claims and sells it to the public,” BBB noted. It gave the company an A-plus rating, despite an apparently unresolved complaint in 2017 that it had sold smoke-damaged merchandise customers without telling them the product was damaged.

Aldi, a discount grocery store which operates more than 1,600 stores in 35 states, has been openly flirting with the notion of opening a store in the Signal Mountain area retail market since last year.

Tractor Supply – which bills itself as the “largest operator of rural lifestyle retail stores in America ” and claims 1,600 stores in 49 states – has been quieter.

Queried about stores near the 37377 ( Signal Mountain ) zip codes, the company’s website currently refers potential customers to its existing retail centers in Dunlap, Soddy Daisy, Ooltewah, Kimball and Fort Oglethorpe .

It makes no mention of a possible new store near Signal Mountain .

Roy Exum: ‘Easy Eddie’ & Butch

Not an hour’s drive from where I now sit is one of the best restaurants in all of Tennessee. Its been some years since I last ate supper at High Point, a legendary mansion restored to elegance by the current owners but, back in the ‘60s, I got a wide-eyed teenager’s peek at the place one Sunday afternoon. What’s this? 14-inch walls filled with sand to stop a G-man’s bullet? Escape ... (click for more)
