U.S. Marine And Coast Guard Veteran Retired From The U.S. Post Office

Shannon James Feeney, 72, of Chattanooga, left us unexpectedly, during his sleep on Sunday, October 7, 2018.

Shannon was born in Oklahoma City, Ok., to Tom and Ruby Lee Feeney. He went to high school at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH, and graduated in 1965. He went on to earn an associate's degree from NH Technical College.  Shannon proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S, Coast Guard for a period of eight years. He worked for the U.S. Post Office from 1986 until his retirement in 2005.

Shannon loved the outdoors, especially fishing and enjoying the sun on a boat where he got his nickname Seadoggie.  His father called him “Gunny”.  He had a lifelong love affair with food (any kind) and spent his days with his four-legged best friend Jarvis.

Shannon was preceded in death by his father, Tomas James Feeney.  

He is survived by his cherished wife, Cheryl Stewart Feeney; son, Shane Feeney;  his mother, Ruby Lee Feeney; sister, Sheila (Paul) Brown; brother, Kevin (Kathleen) Feeney, and niece, Meghan, who all reside in New Hampshire. 

There will be a visitation from 2- 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Hamilton Funeral Home at 4506 Hixson Pike. 

The family and friends will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, and proceed to the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1200 Bailey Avenue for a full military burial.  The American Legion Honor Guard will be there to honor Shannon’s life as an American veteran.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to American Legions Honor Guard.
