2 Arrested, Charged Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Fayette County

Christopher Dewayne Lee, 21, of Memphis, was arrested on Thursday evening and charged in an officer-involved shooting.  Jessica Garder, 26, of Oakland, was also arrested and charged in a robbery both were involved in at a gas station in Oakland Thursday morning.

An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation of an officer-involved shooting in Fayette County resulted in their arrests.

At the request of 25th District Attorney General Mark Davidson, TBI special agents responded to an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday at Murphy’s Gas Station on Highway 64 in Oakland. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that just before 8 a.m., Lee walked onto the station parking lot and took the deposit bag from the clerk, Jessica Gardner.

Agents said Lee then ran through woods nearby and encountered a Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy and an Oakland police officer, who had been dispatched to a reported robbery at that location. Shots were exchanged between the subject and the two law enforcement officers and the deputy was struck.

The investigation revealed Lee then ran across the street to another gas station and stole a vehicle from an individual there. Lee fled the scene in that car, crashing the vehicle at Highway 64 and Rockcreek Parkway in Shelby County, and was taken into custody by Memphis police. He sustained non-critical injuries from the crash and was transported to a Memphis hospital.

The deputy sustained non-critical injuries and was also taken to a Memphis hospital to be treated.

Agents learned that Ms. Gardner was aware of and helped plan the robbery.

Lee is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault against law enforcement, one count of carjacking, one count of theft over $10,000, one count of employment of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, one count of felon in possession of a weapon, and one count of felony evading arrest.

Gardner is charged with one count of theft over $10,000.

Both were booked into the Fayette County Jail.
