Ms. Phillips said, "From the start, this was a family campaign. Tonight we came up short, but there will be better days ahead. And I am very proud of the effort put forth from all the people who volunteered, invested and became part of our family along the way.

"We want the ugly partisan fights to end, and we want Congress to focus on solving the problems all of our communities face every day.

"While the campaign is over, my involvement in the 4th district does not end. I will continue to advocate for better healthcare, stronger schools, and greater investment for all of our communities. Thank you to my staff and the hard-working volunteers who fought hard to get out the vote. And to my husband and kids for standing with me throughout this incredible journey.

"We have a lot of work to do. And I’m ready to keep fighting with you."
