Chattanooga Police said some business cameras helped them arrest the suspect from the shooting on Dec. 13, that took place in the 2100 block of Duncan Avenue.

Police have charged Malcolm Johnson, 25, in the shooting of Wayne Weimer, 57. Johnson was arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Jail.

Johnson is charged with attempted murder, especially aggravated robbery, and aggravated assault.

The victim told police he went to the Smoke One shop on McCallie Avenue, then across to the Dollar General to make purchases.

He said on the way home he stopped at the Rite Aid dumpster to urinate.

He said he then saw a young black male behind him. The man told him, "Give me all you got."

Mr. Weimer said he responded, "No." Then he was shot.

His sister said he called her saying he needed help because he had been shot. She said she returned home, then called an ambulance.

An officer who went to the hospital to interview the victim found that he was in surgery. He was told that his injuries were serious - he had lost half his liver and his gallbladder.

Police found that a young black male was caught on camera following Mr. Weimer out of the Smoke One shop and across Willow Street.

He was caught on camera for several minutes at the tobacco store before Mr. Weimer arrived. Some still shots were taken from the video.

Police also checked to see which individuals matching that description frequented that area.

A photo lineup was shown to the victim and he picked out Johnson as the culprit.

Johnson is being held on $405,000 bond.
