Chattanooga Kicks Off April With New ArtBurst Month-Long Celebration

  • Thursday, March 15, 2018

Chattanooga kicks off April with a new event, ARTBURST, a month-long celebration of art, artists, and the blooming of color in spring. Each week features events designed to stimulate the senses and bring new energy into the city including outdoor art exhibitions, artful yoga, art walks and bike rides, unveiling of several new public artworks, and more.

“The vibrancy of the visual arts in Chattanooga is one of the ways that makes our city so unique,” said Katelyn Kirnie, Director of Public Art for the city of Chattanooga. “ARTBURST offers numerous reasons to get out and have some incredible, one-of-a-kind, and colorful art experiences throughout the city.”

ARTBURST anchor events include: Chattanooga Film Festival (April 5-8); Spring in the Park + Sculpture Burn with John Henry and Andrew Nigh (April 7); Art in Bloom (April 7); Rooted in Color (April 12); Creating Resurgence with Albert Paley (April 12); Art on the Riverwalk with Isaac Duncan III (April 14); 18th Annual 4 Bridges Art Festival (April 21-22); and the Art120 Art Car Parade (April 28).

“It’s exciting to see this kind of attention brought to the efforts of the local arts community,” said Isaac Duncan III, local artist, and president of Mid-South Sculpture Alliance. “We have access to world-class art all around Chattanooga and it's important that we showcase how accessible it is and how much it adds to the quality of our lives.”

ARTBURST is a collaboration between Public Art Chattanooga, ArtsBuild, Humanaut, and the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau. Organizers anticipate that ARTBURST will grow each year as the arts community builds awareness of the arts in Chattanooga.

Community members and organizations can share their ARTBURST events to the online calendar HERE by selecting the “Artburst” category.
