Just 3 Attorneys Apply For Open Magistrate Position

  • Tuesday, September 25, 2018

Only three attorneys have applied for an open magistrate position, though the County Commission recently provided a significant pay boost.

Applying in the wake of the commission terminating Stuart Brown were Bob Davis, Blake F. Murchison of the public defender's office, and Robert L. Widerkehr, Jr. Mr. Davis is a former magistrate who often sits in a fill-in capacity.

The commission is due to interview the applicants on Wednesday, then make the selection the following Wednesday.

The magistrates set bonds and sign warrants from an office at the jail.

There are four magistrates who maintain almost around-the-clock coverage.
