Register of Deeds Marc Gravitt said he and other registers of deeds across the state are pushing to have their full commission restored.
He said it would mean about $750,000 per year to Hamilton County.
Register Gravitt said the five percent commission was cut during the Bredesen administration to help cover a shortage in the state pension fund. He said other county departments were also affected.
He said the state pension system is now funded at 92 percent, which he said is topped by only one other state.
Other county offices have had their full commissions restored, he said.
The change would mean about $6.5 million going to county governments instead of the state.
The County Commission is asked to approve a resolution in support of the request.
