An Open Water Sports Park is slated to go in at the county's popular Chester Frost Park next summer.
Tom Lamb, county parks director, said the 138'x72' water fun park will operate from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
He said from 85-120 people at a time will be able to play and jump on the super-sized floating water attraction that will be installed and operated by NOOGA Splash LLC.
The firm will supply lifeguards, personnel to train the guests and liability insurance, he said. The training will take about 15 minutes, then there will be 45 minutes of fun.
The county will get part of the proceeds - two percent after $250,000 the first year while the firm seeks to recoup its investment and five percent after that.
In other action, Commissioner Greg Martin is giving $3,500 from his discretionary bond funds to Hixson High School for a high jump pit equipment. He said the school got a new track and last season was able to use it for track. He said new additions will make it usable for both track and field.
Also, Chattanooga Funeral Home will continue to handle cremations for county citizens who are indigent. Officials said that is about 50 per year. CFH was the only bidder, but officials said it gave a fair price. The cremains go to the family or to a county columbarium.
In another matter, the county is building a new ambulance station at Collegedale on land donated by McKee Bakery. The bid from Integrated Properties came in at $1,172,566 - almost twice the estimate of $700,000.
And, the county is applying for a $2.5 million federal grant to prepare a 182-acre industrial site at the Enterprise South Industrial Park. There have been a lot of lookers at the site on Highway 58, but firms want it "shovel ready." It is necessary to relocate a stream, move a 24" water line, and remedy some environmental issues. The city and county plan to contribute $1,250,000 each toward the $5 million project.
