Police Blotter: Downtown Buildings Being Hit By Vandals; Woman Panhandling To Get Money For Cat Food, Beer

Police responded on a vandalism report at the historic Miller Building at  629 Market St. The building manager said there was damage done to the building on back to back days. He said several windows had been tagged with some substance that could not be removed with any chemical and needed to be replaced. There were several windows with the letters “LOEH” tagged on them and a door that was tagged with the same writing and also had “GADS OR GAPS” with an arrow pointing south on the Broad Street side. He estimated the damage to be $28,000 and said there were cameras but there was no suspect information at this time. He said the building has been vandalized in the past and several buildings surrounding this one have been hit also.

There was a report of vandalism at River Gorge Drive at the Black Creek development. An officer observed a damaged light pole ($1,000) at 500 River Gorge with clay orange dirt on the side and tracks from an off road vehicle coming from the top of the mountain. There were also tracks inside the grass of the roundabout at 700 River Gorge Dr. Police also observed tracks through the grass and sidewalk at 800 River Gorge Dr. Police had no information on the party/parties that drove through the grass and hit the light pole or drove through the grass.

At the Walmart on Gunbarrel Road, a Loss Prevention employee said he observed a white male conceal two Gator Ades and a pair of pliers. He then observed the man walk towards the front of the business and cross all points of sale with no intention of paying for the merchandise. He and  other employees tried to stop and detain the man, but he dropped the merchandise and took off running. Police have no suspect information. The stolen property was recovered.

A woman on Ivy Street said someone had written through the dirt (B---H A--) on the driver's side of her vehicle. She said she believes the culprit is a woman her husband is having an affair with. She does not  want the other woman on her property.

A woman said she was outside the Speedway on Brainerd Road when she noticed a woman inside. She said the two of them have a past due to her husband sleeping with the woman. She said she waited on the other woman to leave before she got out of the car. She said the woman started yelling at her, and she stayed in her vehicle until she left. She said the same thing has been happening to her "all across the county."

A man with a business on E. Main Street said he parked two of his trucks outside the firm. He returned to his trucks and found the diesel fuel had been siphoned out of them. He told police at least $1,000 worth of fuel had been taken from his trucks' tanks.

A sergeant at the Army National Guard on Lee Highway said a government vehicle was broken into over the weekend. He said the driver side door was forced open and items were stolen from the vehicle. Taken were a computer bag, laptop, gas card, myfi hotspot, a spare tire, and the tire jack. Police found prints on the trunk of the vehicle and lifted the prints for possible identification.

A woman who lives at a residence on 10th Avenue said a man had stolen three boxes from her front yard. She said the mailman had left three boxes in front of the fence by the mailbox, and as she was coming outside to collect them, a white male wearing a blue shirt grabbed the boxes and fled on his bicycle. She described the man as skinny. He was wearing a blue shirt and black jacket. The contents of the boxes included a $250 Apple tablet and various car parts valued at $60.

Police located a woman panhandling at the intersection of Tunnel Boulevard and Wilcox Boulevard. When she noticed an officer she rolled up her sign and attempted to put it under her shirt as she walked away. An officer made contact with her and she said she was trying to get money to feed her cats and to buy beer for herself. She said she smokes ICE, but has not had any since her heart attack (one week earlier). The officer explained to her that she could not be panhandling in the area. She requested a ride to her home and was transported to her place on Tunnel Boulevard.
