CARTA Receives $7.1 Million Federal Grant From Statewide Application

  • Wednesday, November 27, 2019

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced this week that the Federal Transit Administration will award the Tennessee Department of Transportation a $16.2 million grant for buses and bus facilities.

TDOT applied for the grant on behalf of 10 transit agencies in coordination with the Tennessee Public Transportation Association, which will assist the agencies with the replacement of vehicles that have exceeded their useful life.

Out of the $16.2 million awarded to the state, CARTA will receive $7.1 million.

Lisa Maragnano, CARTA’s executive director, said, “Of $16,228,197 that was awarded to TDOT by the FTA, CARTA’s portion is $7,156,500. However, with 25% state and 10% local matches, our project total is $11,010,000 for new buses and paratransit vehicles. This shows what a great partnership we have with TDOT, the TPTA and the other transit agencies in Tennessee that partnered with us on this grant application.”
