Two people have been arrested in Whitfield County after the death of a teenager last week in Dalton.
The 16-year-old boy was found on Jan. 27 near a home at 3111 East Walnut Ave.
Whitfield County sheriff's deputies arrested the teenager's uncle, James Brandon Shelton, and 19-year-old Chasity Beavers for second-degree cruelty to children and making false statements. Ms. Beavers was also charged with interference with custody.
The teen had been in the co-care of the Division of Family and Children's Services and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
He was recently detained by the Regional Youth Detention Center and released on Jan.
26 to a group home in Columbus, Georgia.
Sheriff Scott Chitwood said Ms. Beavers facilitated the teen's escape from the group home with the help of the uncle.
