  • Wednesday, May 22, 2019
Mesa, Az. - #6-ranked Dalton State improved by 10 strokes on a first round (+35, 319) to shot a (+25, 309) in the second round of the NAIA National Championship at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners missed the 17 team cut line and will finish in 22nd overall.

ROUND 1
It was not the start the Birds were looking for as they posted a team total of (+35, 319) to end the day in the 23rd position. Dalton State made the turn at 9-over with junior Ben Rebne leading the charge at 1-over.
Large numbers on the scorecard haunted the Roadrunners all day as the team combined for five scores of double-bogey or worse.

Things got worse on the back 9 as the team managed only one birdie by freshman Zach Womack coming in. Womack led DS in scoring with a (+7, 78), with Rebne following with a (+8, 79). Sport Allmond and Matthew Cleary posted rounds of (+10, 81), while Eli Hendricks carded a (+15, 86).

ROUND 2
Starting on the difficult back side, the Roadrunners found themselves at 5-over after three holes of play. They turned to the front at 15-over and in danger of missing the cut.

The team continued to struggle with finding a rhythm, but managed to improve by 10 strokes from their first round score posting a (+25, 309). Womack and Rebne tied for low score on the team with (+4, 75). Hendricks improved with most in the second round with a (+6, 77). Cleary carded a (+11, 82), while Allmond shot (+13, 84).

The #6 Roadrunners will head home and prepare for another run at a national championship in 2020.
