Annie “Kate” Johnson, 86, of Rome, Georgia, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at her home in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
 
Annie “Kate” Johnson was born on Sept. 12, 1932, in Troup County. She was the daughter of Horace Truitt, Sr. and Lillie Broughton Truitt. She was the third born of seven siblings. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Johnson for 60 years before he preceded her in death.
 
She was educated in the Floyd County School System. She was a domestic worker and worked at Cardinal Glove Company for several years. In 1979 she and her husband opened J&J Old Fashion BBQ Restaurant that they operated together for 20 years. Annie “Kate” Johnson was a faithful member of Thankful Baptist Church where she served as an Usher, chaired several committees and participated in countless activities until her health rendered her homebound.
 
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by: her one son, Reverend Wayne L. (Wenda) Johnson; five grandchildren, Ashley (Anita) Johnson, Erica Smith, Michka Johnson, Ran (Asha) Coleman and Sylvia Coleman; nine great-grandchildren, Ashton Johnson, Austyn Johnson, Dallan Coleman, Lexxus Coleman, Markia Ash, Mekhi Reed, Paije Smith, Parisse Smith and Princess Young; one brother, Hal Truitt Sr.; one sister, Gladys Stalling; one brother-in-law, John (Emma) Johnson; nine sisters-in-law, Annette (Roosevelt) Byrd, Mary Finley, Nancy Wilson, Norma Jean Bowden, Patricia Meadows and Shirley Reddick; a host of nieces and nephews; special cousins Dorothy Parker and Rosia Greene; and special friends, Catherine Whatley, Delores Clay, Henrice Berrine and Mattie Mae Terhune.
 
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Thomas “J.T” Johnson, parents; Horace and Lillie Truitt; two brothers, Charlie Truitt and Horace Truitt Jr; two sisters, Eugenia Starr and Lucille Fain; four sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson Burnette Mixon, Estelle Dennis, Jennie Ginn and Velma Johnson. Annie “Kate” Johnson will be missed by many.
 
Her character and wisdom shared was a direct reflection of her relationship with Jesus Christ. Many will cherish her memory always. She served as a living example of a Proverbs 31 woman. She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. ~ Proverbs 31:26.
 
Mrs. Annie Johnson will lie in state on Monday, May 20, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home from 12-8:30 p.m. 
 
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at Thankful Baptist Church, 935 Spiderweb Dr., Rome, Ga. 30161, followed by the funeral service at noon.
 
Interment will be in Floyd Memory Gardens in Rome.
