  • Thursday, July 18, 2019

Gregory Allan Trotter passed away peacefully on July 17, 2019, with his wife and sons by his side.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1947, in Anderson, S.C. and was raised in Milledgeville, Ga. He was the second of five children born to John Dallas Trotter and Fretta Wells Trotter, who predeceased him.

Greg attended Georgia Military College and graduated from Memphis State University with a BS degree in mechanical engineering. The majority of his career was spent at Tennessee Valley Authority as an engineer in nuclear design. He retired in 2001.

He met Bonnie Hopkins in 1970, and after a brief courtship, was married to his life partner for 48 years. Together they raised two sons, Gabriel Allan and Benjamin Gregory. In addition to being “Dad”, his most recent prized name was “Poppy” to his two beloved grandchildren, Olivia Braelyn and Grayson Benjamin.

In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his workshop, listening to oldies music, and traveling with Bonnie in their RV all over the United States, including two trips to Alaska.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his son, Allan and wife, Catherine, and their two children, Olivia and Grayson, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, and his son Benjamin, of Austin Texas. He also is survived by four siblings.

Visitation will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343, on Sunday, July 21, from 3-5 p.m. The family will release his ashes in the Gulf of Mexico near his beloved Longboat Key, Fl. in a private memorial in the fall.
