A sergeant in the Walker County Sheriff's Office was shot on Sunday night. The Sheriff's Office said returned shots were fired and the initial shooter was in critical condition.
The officer who was shot was identified as Sgt. Thomas Agredano.
The incident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. at a private drive off Claire Street in Rossville.
Deputies were dispatched to a domestic call with a unwanted party at the residence.
A man was sitting on the porch when deputies arrived.
Sgt. Agredano engaged the suspect in conversation. The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Sherman Travis Thomas, told Sgt. Agredano to leave and then began shooting at him.
One round struck the sergeant in the leg. As the sergeant was retreating for cover, he and deputy Coppack returned fire striking the suspect multiple times.
Sgt. Agredano and Thomas were transported to Erlanger Hospital for treatment.
Sgt. Agredano was treated and released on Monday morning.
Thomas remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery.
Sheriff Wilson requested the G.B.I. to investigate the shooting. Criminal charges against Thomas will be made by the G.B.I.
