The pubic is invited to learn about the common condition of a hernia from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at CHI Memorial Hospital Hixson.
"Anyone can develop a hernia which occurs when an organ pushes through, or sticks out, of a tear or opening in the muscle or tissue that holds it in place. Hernias are commonly found in the abdomen and groin, and will not heal without effective treatment," officials said.
General surgeons Roger Land, M.D., FACS, J. Andrew Lovette, MD, FACS, and Christina R.
Parkhurst, MD, FACS, will perform screenings for hernias of the groin and abdomen. The surgeons will also discuss treatment options, if appropriate.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on demonstration of the da Vinci Surgical System, the same system surgeons use at CHI Memorial.
Register online for a screening appointment at
Eventbrite.com. Walk-ins are also welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
