Held Long Career With TVA And Served In The Army National Guard

Michael Alphonso Vastano entered the presence of the Lord on January 23, 2020. 

Mike was born in Rahway, N.J. on Sept. 26, 1953, to Alphonso and Grace Vastano.  He served in the Army National Guard and also was a choir member and served a term as deacon at Hixson First Baptist Church where he was member for 32 years.  He married his best friend and love of his life, Sandra on October 9, 1976.  Mike retired from TVA after 29 years and more recently retired from SERC after 12 years.

His hobbies included working, telling jokes, playing with his six grandchildren, and talking with everyone he met.  Mike never met a stranger.  He and Sandra also enjoyed many cruises, including earlier this month to celebrate his retirement.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonso and Grace Vastano. 

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra Vastano, his sons, Adam Vastano (fiancé Emily Goodwin), Russ Vastano (Devon), Andrew Vastano (Wendy), his sister, Ann Marie Warner (Don) and brother, Mark Vastano (Sally), and his six grandchildren, Austin, Caleb, Maddox, Barrett, Judah, and his long-awaited granddaughter Grace along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Remembrance of Life Service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel on Highway 153 with Mr. Terry Shannon and Dr. Steve Granger officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be the Friday morning Men’s Prayer Group from Hixson First Baptist Church.

Arrangements are held by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
