U.S. Army Veteran Was Active In Rossville Community In A Variety Of Roles

Joseph “Joe” Moore, 87 of Rossville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2020.

 

Joe was a 1950 graduate of Rossville High School where he played Basketball and Football for the Rossville Bulldogs. After high school, he proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He first worked for Southern Railway and then Peerless Woolen Mills which later became Rossville Yarns Inc. until his retirement. Joe was heavily involved in the Rossville community, coaching little league ball teams through Peerless Recreation and played on the Peerless Woolen Mills Basketball and Softball teams going by the nickname, “Jumpin’ Joe.” He was a TSSAA football official, Chairman of Walker County Board of Education, Rossville City Council official, Rossville Municipal Judge, and a charter member of the Battlefield Golf & Country Club. Joe was the oldest living member of the Simpson United Methodist Church and a member of the Out Reach Sunday School class and played on the church softball team.  In his free time, Joe enjoyed cheering on the GA Bulldogs, “Go Dawgs!” and the Atlanta Braves, “Chop on Braves!” He was always involved in sports, the Rossville community, his church, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Elvie Moore; granddaughter, Bridgette “Micki” Moore; brothers, Marion Moore, Billy Moore, and Pete Moore; and sister, Patsy Evans.      

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Mullinax Moore; sons, Rick (Terry) Moore and Doug Moore; grandchildren, T.J. (Amanda) Moore and Max Moore; great-granddaughter, Bailee Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverends David Harr and John Oldham officiating and family eulogy by son, Rick Moore. Interment will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rossville High School Alumni Association at P.O. Box 1001 Rossville, Ga. 30741.
