Chattanooga State Gets Green Light For $21.7M TCAT Building

  • Wednesday, August 19, 2020

Chattanooga State Community College moved into the state budget winner’s circle when the General Assembly approved funds for a new $21.7M Advanced Manufacturing building for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Chattanooga.

Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Danny Gibbs said, “TBR Facilities Development staff looks forward to working with TCAT Chattanooga to get this project started.” The initial planning stage for the 40,000 square foot building and renovations to TCAT buildings 1 and 2 will take place during 2021, while the new Advanced Manufacturing building is expected to be complete in 2023, followed by the completion of renovations to TCAT 1 and 2 in 2024.

Chattanooga State President Dr. Rebecca Ashford noted that a lack of space has prevented the college from expanding existing or adding new TCAT programs. “The new Advanced Manufacturing building for the Chattanooga State TCAT will enable us to educate and train more students for high paying, in-demand jobs and solid futures,” stated Dr. Ashford. “In addition to the students who will benefit from this building, employers in our area will benefit from having a skilled workforce.”

Officials said, "Chattanooga State TCAT is a leading provider of hands-on, high-demand skills training programs. With more than 25 programs of study, many students are able to start their career in one year or less."
