Marilyn Powers Batts, 73, passed away peacefully in a local hospital on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, after a brief illness.

She was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Marilyn served the community by volunteering at Memorial Hospital gift shop, Hamilton County Board of Elections and Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was a loyal member of Alpha Bets (wives of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity members) where she continued to serve until her passing.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Claude “Pete” Batts; her mother, Libby B. Powers; and her brother, Carl T. Powers.

Left to cherish her memories are: daughter, Tracy (Robert) Bosley of Atlanta, GA; son, Claude Terry (Tia) Batts of Charlotte, NC; father, Monroe Powers, Jr. of South Pittsburg, TN; a devoted nephew, Tommie Batts, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters, Tera Batts and Tianna Batts of Charlotte NC, Nia and Nadia Bosley of Atlanta GA; sisters, Gloria P. Batts of Huntsville, AL and Veronica P. Ritchie of Huntsville, AL; brothers, Willard V. (Marilynn) Powers of Huntsville, AL, Terry (Renee) Powers of South Pittsburg, TN, and Tony Powers of Honolulu, HI; brothers-in-law, Tommie (Teresa) Batts, Sr., Fred E. (Eleanor) Batts, and Marvin L. (Betty) Batts, all of Huntsville, AL; sisters-in-law, Geraldine B. Clark and Freda Batts, both of Huntsville, AL, and Millie M. Batts of Chattanooga, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.

Marilyn will lie in state on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. 

Family services are on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Father Mike Nolan as the eulogist. 

Marilyn will lie in state on Friday, Jan. 28, from 9-2 p.m. (CST) at Royal Funeral Home in Huntsville, Al. 

Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens at 3 p.m. (CST).
