Mary Lou Ziegler Lyons, 94, went to be with her Savior on February 2, 2021.

She was born in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, October 31, 1926, to the late Ed and Esther Ziegler. At nine years of age, her parents moved to Frankfort, Kentucky, where she became a Christian at the age of 12. She graduated from high school, having received the Bausch and Lomb three-year science award and the Valedictory award. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences. She taught school for three years, having previously married her high school sweetheart. Following several transfers as her husband was employed with the Bell Telephone System, they made Chattanooga their permanent home.

She was an active member of Red Bank Baptist Church. Her greatest delight there was teaching the J.O.Y. Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. In past years, she had been a long-time member of the Caring Hands Ministry and had helped lead in the Women’s Missionary Union Call to Prayer. She was a true prayer warrior and a loving hostess who enjoyed preparing many meals for her class, her neighbors, her family, and anyone who needed some good home cooking.

Her extended family members were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Tommy Lyons, in 2014.

She is survived by Tommy (Marcia) Lyons of Springfield, TN, Mary Leslie Tipps (Steve) of Signal Mountain, TN, and Peggy (Alan) Mynatt of Cleveland, TN. Also surviving are grandchildren Cayce Broker, Leslie Spuler, Joshua Lyons, Jonathan Lyons, Jarrod Lyons, Beth Tipps, Katelyn Dowlen, Amanda Huyser, and Logan Mynatt, and many great-grandchildren.

In recent years, Mary Lou made her home at The Terrace in Red Bank where she enjoyed visiting with her neighbors, participating in a jewelry-making class, reading, and teaching a Bible study. She was very fond of the sweet friends she made while living there and looked forward to phone conversations with them.

For the safety of everyone, a graveside time of reflection for family members only will be held at the National Cemetery with The Rev. Beth Tipps officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Red Bank Baptist Church Library.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.
