Peter Card, 77, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021. He was born in South Kingston, RI (1944) to the late Arthur Frank and Louise Chase Card.

He graduated from South Kingston High School in 1962 and was recruited by Don Zimmer as a stand-out high school baseball pitcher. He chose instead to attend the University of Utah on a full athletic scholarship in baseball and football. He apprenticed at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT and was selected to weld his initials onto the keel of a newly commissioned submarine. Pete served aboard the Admiral’s Ship, the USS Yosemite, during the Viet Nam War. He helped build (from the onset) the Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage Plant in Chattanooga.

Pete was a life-time member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 43. He enjoyed everything about the racing industry, including building his own car and racing throughout the Southeast. In addition, he was the ARCA and NASCAR crew chief for the late Grant Adcox, whom he loved dearly. Despite being plagued with debilitating and crippling arthritis for 30 years, Pete maintained a positive outlook and never gave up on his drive to excel at life.

Pete leaves behind his wife of 56 years Eileen Adkins Card, his sister Cher (William) King (CT), brother Michael Card FL) and the late Arthur Card, He was father to three sons, Peter (Tracy), Andrew, and Tobin (Kim) Card. In addition, he adored his grandchildren Courtney Card of Maine, Baggio, Milan and Totti Card, Madelyn Gibbs, Jacob and Nic Matthews and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His best friends Hartley Rankin, Ray Ford, Sherley Brown, Floyd Reels and Jim Mello along with many others will miss him.

In lieu of flowers, Pete requested that contributions be made to Notre Dame High School, 2701 Vermont Avenue, Chattanooga TN 37404 because the school had such a positive impact on his sons and grandsons. In addition, he was well-taken care of by the staff at Hospice of Chattanooga.

He will be interned at the National Cemetery Chattanooga at a later date.
