Baylor seventh grade Jacob Tate finished second at the Zone Spelling Bee and will advance to the regional bee on March 5 at UT-Chattanooga. Jacob made it through 13 rounds before he was stumped by "pelisse" and settled for runner-up.

Jacob was third at Baylor's Middle School spelling bee, finishing behind champion eighth grader Piper Ryan and runner-up seventh grader Ananya Chakraborty in a competition that went 33 rounds. Ananya and Piper finished third and fourth, respectively, at the zone bee and do not advance.

A good showing at the regional bee could advance Jacob to the Scripps National Spelling Bee this summer.
