U.S. Army Veteran Retired From Combustion Engineering And Was Strong In His Faith

Roy Estal Clapp, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. 

He was born in Knox County, Tn., on March 19, 1933, to the late Ralph and Wanda Clapp.

Roy was strong in his faith and has been a member of Calvary Bible Church since 1968, where he served as a Deacon and Elder.  Roy served in the United States Army shortly after the Korean Conflict.  He attended UTC and worked in the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, before moving to Chattanooga to start a long career with Combustion Engineering, where he retired.  After his retirement, he enjoyed many years as a poll official with the Hamilton County Election Commission and face painting for children at numerous craft fairs and festivals.  Roy was a proud family man who loved fishing, reading western books, gardening and painting, which led him to serve as President of the Regional Art Alliance.  But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Wanda (Crumpley) Clapp, brothers, John Otis and Thomas Wade Clapp, and sisters, Bobbie and Wanda Faye Clapp, Betty Livingston and Myrtle Bryant.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorena Clapp, daughters, Stacey (Greg) Tate, Sherri (Calvin) Sivley, grandchildren, Jessica Gravitt, Zach, Caleb and Hannah Tate, Farryn, Kaylee and Peyton Sivley, great-grandchildren, Bryson, Jaxson, Rhett, Ariel, Grayson and Rowan, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Hamilton Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., and a graveside service and burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2 p.m., with Pastor Bill Henry officiating,
