The Lee University School of Music will welcome the quartet enhake to present a concert and masterclass for this season’s Performing Arts Series. The concert will take place on Monday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall, and the masterclass will take place earlier that day at 5:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall.
The performance, “L’histoire du tango,” will feature selections from Ángel Villoldo, Rosita Melo, Rodolfo Biagi, Astor Piazzolla, Sonia Possetti, and John Mackey.
enhake has distinguished itself as a group with adventurous programming and performances with startling intensity. The group’s name is from the Seminole (Creek) word for “sound” or “call,” and enhake’s distinct sound allows it to be flexible with its repertoire, performing music from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras in addition to contemporary masterworks.
The quartet includes Katherine Decker, cello; Wonkak Kim, clarinet; Eun-Hee Park, piano; and M. Brent Williams, violin. They have toured on three continents and in some of the world’s biggest venues, such as Carnegie Hall, South Korea’s Young-San Arts Hall, and the OK Mozart Festival.
The group has had works written and dedicated to it by many famous composers including Libby Larsen, Peter Lieuwen, and Edward Knight. enhake has produced several CDs for the MSR, Naxos, and Emeritus labels, and these can be heard on NPR stations across the United States, Sirius XM, and public radio in Korea.
enhake will be joined by Lee University’s own professor of clarinet, Dr. Amy Humberd, for the concert.
Dr. Humberd has appeared throughout the U.S. and Europe as a soloist, orchestral musician, and chamber musician. She is a founding member of the Civitasolis Reed Quintet, a group dedicated to innovative performances and new music. She has presented at several national and international conferences, including the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest and the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 6 Conference in 2021 and the American Single Reed Summit in 2019.
Dr. Humberd earned her Doctor of Music degree in clarinet performance from Florida State University and a Master of Music and performer’s Diploma in clarinet performance from Indiana University’s prestigious Jacobs School of Music. She also has a Bachelor of Music in music education and her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Lee University.
The performance is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
