April 29 Declared Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s Hamilton Day

  • Tuesday, April 29, 2025

A ceremony was held Tuesday where the Mayor Tim Kelly and County Mayor Weston Wamp declared the Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s Hamilton Day, April 29, 2025.

Here is the proclamation:

Whereas: The Tivoli Theatre Foundation operates, preserves, and restores historic landmarks—including the Tivoli Theatre, the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium, and the Walker Theatre—to enrich the quality of life in our region by providing the highest standard of diverse entertainment and educational programming, and by fostering awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the performing arts; and

Whereas:
as a member of the Broadway League, the Foundation continues to bring world-class Broadway productions to our community and invests in future generations through student-focused initiatives such as TivEd, Camp Broadway, and the Jewel Awards; and

Whereas:
HAMILTON—a revolutionary story of passion, ambition, and the birth of a new nation—follows the rise of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton as he fights for honor, love, and a legacy that would help shape the course of the United States; and

Whereas:
based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography and created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, HAMILTON has garnered eleven Tony Awards, as well as Grammy®, Olivier, and Pulitzer Prize honors, along with an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors; and

Whereas:
after thousands of performances worldwide, HAMILTON is now playing in Hamilton County, Tennessee—one of only two locations in the United States named for Alexander Hamilton to host this iconic touring production; and

Whereas:
the engagement of HAMILTON in our community will generate substantial economic, cultural, and educational impact, with sixteen performances over two weeks expected to draw more than 30,000 visitors downtown to experience the magic of Broadway at the historic Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium, a venue that honors the brave individuals who have defended the ideals of our nation’s Founders; and

Whereas:
the touring production of HAMILTON will celebrate its 300th performance on Sunday, May 4th, on the stage of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium, and Hamilton County, the City of Chattanooga, and the Tivoli Theatre Foundation are proud to host this historic milestone in a musical legacy that continues to inspire audiences across the nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, We, Tim Kelly, Mayor of the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Weston Wamp,

Mayor of Hamilton County, Tennessee, do hereby proclaim April 29, 2025 as

Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s HAMILTON Day

in the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County, Tennessee, and extend gratitude to the Tivoli Theatre Foundation for its dedication to the arts, historic preservation, and cultural enrichment of our community.
