The 2022 Masterworks concert
Lee University School of Music will present its Masterworks concert on Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. The concert will feature Lee University’s Choral Union, Chorale, and Symphony Orchestra.
The performance will showcase works by Edvard Grieg, Antonín Dvorak, Giacomo Puccini, Emmanuel Séjourné, and Dan Forrest’s “LUX: The Dawn from On High.”
“Dan’s music is sung in nearly every choral space all over the world, and we are thrilled to collaborate with a composer of such stature,” said Dr. Cameron Weatherford, assistant professor of choral music and conductor of Choral Union. “We are certain that Dan’s sentiments of Christ as the Light that has come to illuminate us will be made evident through this performance.”
The concert will also feature student winners of the 2023 annual Concerto and Aria Competition, who are selected by a panel of Lee and community representatives. The winners include Marielle Alexander, soprano; Lynnae Eades, piano; Amanda Moran, soprano; and Meliza Reyes, percussion.
“These students are a perfect representation of what it means to be a music major at Lee,” said Weatherford. “Their hard work and dedication to their craft is the standard we hope to set for all of our musicians, and they deserve every minute of their featured performances.”
Choral Union, directed by Dr. Weatherford, is an ensemble consisting of both music and non-music majors that performs choral music and major masterworks for mixed chorus and orchestra.
The Symphony Orchestra, directed by Ismael Sandoval, is an ensemble of select instrumentalists and performs a wide variety of orchestral literature. Its musicians frequently participate in other concerts on the campus, as well as present one major concert each semester.
Dr. William Green conducts the Lee University Chorale, an ensemble of select vocalists that emphasizes the diversity and breadth of traditional choral literature, presenting both traditional choral music and works by modern composers.
