James Johnson
James Donald Johnson, 58, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, in a local hospital.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1964, in Ward, Al. He was the sixth child of the late James Dan and Annie Maude Johnson. James graduated from Sumter High School class of 1982. In 1988 he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was always a diligent worker. He was an employee at Sonoco Products, Inc. for 35 years. In his spare time, he loved to work out at the gym. He received a trophy for 1st place in a bench press contest. He also loved working on cars and would help a friend or family member who needed their cars repaired. James did not hesitate to lend a helping hand. He always had a story to tell and his sense of humor was infectious making him the life of the party.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Dan and Annie Maude Johnson.
Survivors include wife of 32 years, Angela Johnson; children, Christopher (Latara) Turner of Foster, AL, LaKisha Jones of Mocksville, NC, Brandon Turner of Tuscaloosa, AL, GlyNise (Tevin) Douglas, and Deion Johnson, both of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Krisslyn Turner, Christopher Turner, Montevious Jones, Kingston Jones, Jada Holmes, Zion Johnson, and King Johnson; brother, Clifton Johnson, Gregory Johnson, both of Ward, AL, and Mark Johnson of Guntersville, AL; sisters, Ola Pears of Mobile, AL, Mayola (Alfonzo) Robinson of Emelle, AL, Mildred (Wendell) Delaine of Cuba, AL, Audrey (Ivy) Speight of Ward and Valita Johnson of Tuscaloosa, AL; mother-in-law, Evelyn Higgins of Chattanooga; brothers-in-law, John (Jackie) Higgins of Adamsville, AL, David Higgins, Matthew Higgins, and Timothy Higgins, all of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Annette (Bennie) Lewis of Chattanooga; special friend, Oliver Tarvin, Sr. of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
James will lie in state on Monday, April 24, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at noon in the chapel with Pastor Kenneth Love, Sr. as the eulogist.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
