Dorothy Rae Sidowey
It is with great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the Sidowey, Seymour and Orr families announce the passing of our kind, brave, and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Dorothy Rae Sidowey passed away July 13, 2023, surrounded by her girls. She was 90 years young, born on September 28, 1932.
Dorothy went by many names: Momma, Momma Dot, Dot Dot, Dottie and Dot. Momma Dot loved her church, South Seminole Baptist, where she was a faithful member of the Love Class. She was on the card ministry finding great joy sending cards to anyone she thought might need a loving word. Momma Dot spent most days reading her Bible where she often made notes on the page. At the end of Ruth, her note was, “Ruth is a beautiful story. Read it.”
The thing that brought her the most joy was her Grand and Great grands. She wrapped her arms around all her babies and squeezed them tight - there were no better hugs. Momma Dot collected angels and loved sharing them with others. If you were at her house, you probably left with one of her cherished angels. She was a spitfire of a woman that fought hard for the ones she loved. Despite the difficulties life threw her way, she did not give up. The best giggle fests were grown from our funny lady.
Momma Dot was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Omar and Jimmy Omar. She is survived by her daughters, Vickie and Tom Orr and Cathy and Ron Seymour; her grandchildren, Jess and Eric Rector, Emily and Travis Shears, Katie and Freddy Edgemon, and Tommy and Sara Orr; her great grands: Jon Rector and Luke Tanner, Norah and Jacob Shears, Frances Edgemon, and Tommy, Justin and Callie Orr; sisters-in-law, Mary Gatlin and Pam Omar; and brother-in-law, Bob Sidowey. She is also survived by her great love, dear friend, and the father of her girls, Bill Sidowey.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 22, from 4-6 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
In lieu of flower the family request donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Dorothy’s memory.
Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415, 423 877-3524.
