Elizabeth Marie “Libby” Moore Millsaps
Elizabeth Marie “Libby” Moore Millsaps, 88, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, in the presence of family.
Born on March 13, 1937, in Manchester, Tn., Libby was the daughter of Arthur Elvis Moore and Minnie Belle Lambert Moore. She grew up in a large family of 16 children. Libby assumed a maternal role in helping raise her six younger siblings after the death of her mother when she was only 12. She maintained a close and loving relationship with her siblings the rest of her life.
Libby met her high school sweetheart, James Franklin “Jim” Millsaps, when she was living with her foster family, David and Evelyn Dicus, and they were both students at Kirkman High School in Chattanooga. The couple married in July 1955 and together they raised three children and built a loving home filled with laughter, faith and family traditions. In the early years of raising their family, they lived in Chattanooga, until 1962, then moved to Bell Gardens, Ca., where they lived until 1968 before moving back to Daisy, Tn., to establish their permanent home near Jim’s family.
Libby worked throughout much of her adult life, including at well-known Chattanooga companies like Tepper Clinic, Cavalier Corporation, Brock Candy Company and Fibron Corporation. In her free time, Libby enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, caring for her beloved fur-babies, and later in life, traveling with Jim, sightseeing across the U.S. and Canada.
She is survived by her three children, Maria Harris (Fred), Cherie Gilchrist, and James Louis Millsaps (Cheryl); eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Rosalee Pemberton, and sisters-in-law, Bobbie Moore and Sharon McWilliams. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soulmate, Jim Millsaps, her parents, nine brothers and two sisters, one granddaughter and one great grandson. The remaining family takes comfort in knowing that Libby is now pain-free, and she and Jim are reunited in a joyous homecoming celebration with the Lord.
