A Chattanooga Police officer was shot in an exchange of gunfire Friday night on North Holtzclaw at East 3rd, and the person firing at officers was killed.
The officer was treated at the hospital and was released pending further treatment.
The suspect was 34 years old and from Chattanooga.
Officers were on scene for a street crime related detail and encountered a suspect at 9:41 p.m.
At some point during the stop, gunfire was exchanged and an officer and the suspect were both shot.
Police said they would release the names of both at a later date.
“Protecting our city is a 24/7 job and I am so proud of our officers who never waiver in their commitment to this community.” said Chattanooga Police Chief Celeste Murphy.
The TBI is handling the investigation as is the standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings.
