Rainy conditions in metro New York City wreaked havoc with Sunday’s schedule at the 42nd U.S. Mid-Amateur, moving the completion of the second round of stroke play to Monday morning for half the field.
With the top 64 scores after 36 holes advancing to match play, Lookout Mountain’s Mark Harrell is forced to wait and see if his two-day total of 4-over 145 will place him inside the cut line. Harrell posted a 2-over 73 on the Sleepy Hollow Country Club course before the rains arrived, leaving him in a current tie for 88th place.
Harrell had two birdies along with four bogeys on his round, matching the 2-over he carded Saturday on the Fenway Golf Club layout.
Hayes Brown of Charlotte, who won the 2023 John T. Lupton Invitational at The Honors Course, stands at 8-over 149 (T152). Two-time Lupton Invitational winner Joe Deraney of Tupelo, Mississippi (T14) will begin his second round on Monday, along with former Lee University golfer Matt Emery (T43), Tennessee Mid-Amateur runner-up Winburne Hughes of Memphis (T69) and Fort Payne resident Blake Watts (T88) in hopes of making a move to advance to match play.
