Gordon Ogilvie Johnson
Gordon Ogilvie Johnson, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 18, 2024.
A lifelong pillar of his community, Gordon devoted his time and talents to service groups such as the Jaycees, imperial lords, and the Armistice Elk Lodge #440, where he proudly served as Exalted Ruler for two years. His professional life was equally impactful, dedicating over 28 years of service to the University of Chattanooga, where he left a lasting legacy of commitment and excellence.
May 1980, Gordon married the love of his life, Deborah Denise (Lyons) Johnson, in holy matrimony. Throughout their 44 years of marriage, Deborah was not only his partner but also his devoted caretaker, lovingly attending to him through his later years and until his final moments.
Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Gwen Ann Crutcher; his parents, Gatha Mai (Neal) Johnson and Georgie Lee Johnson; and his siblings, George Richard Johnson, Rev. Grady Elven (Patsy) Johnson, Garrett Lee Johnson, Gene Allen Johnson, and Gladys Ophelia Phillips.
He is survived by his two devoted daughters, Kimberly Bell (Johnson) Hurley and Veronica (Russell) Wicks; his two sons, Gordon Ogilvie (Flash) Johnson and Gregory (Lisa) Johnson; his sister, Gatha Joe Ester Eubanks; two grandsons, six granddaughters, and eight great-grandchildren.
Gordon will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.
Public viewing will be from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at the funeral home.
An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423 622-9995.
Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Highway 153 North.
