White Oak Bicycle Co-op, a 501c3 nonprofit organization with the mission of increasing access to bicycles, has donated two bicycle repair stations to the city of Red Bank. The repair stations include eight commonly used tools for minor repairs and adjustments and are placed along what is soon to become “Bicycle Boulevard.”
“White Oak’s involvement in the community is making our city more liveable and bikeable and enhancing the quality of life for our residents,” said Red Bank Mayor Hollie Berry.
“As a city, we welcome every opportunity to support and encourage our resident and visitor cyclists, making Red Bank a future Bicycle Friendly Community.”
The blue Park Tool Trailhead Workstations are placed at Kid’s Corner Playground, at Unaka and Redding Road, and at the White Oak Connector Trailhead, near the entrance of White Oak Park. These two locations will be the northern terminus and the southern terminus of Bicycle Boulevard, respectively. WOBC purchased the repair stations with grant funds provided by the Jeff Roth Cycling Foundation.
“We see dozens of people walking, running and cycling on Lyndon Avenue everyday. Red Bank is becoming a healthier and more active community and we wanted to support that,” said WOBC Executive Director and Red Bank resident Blake Pierce. “We hope that these workstations will reduce barriers to cycling in our community. Cyclists can feel safe knowing mechanical support is nearby.”
The donation of the repair stations as supportive infrastructure aligns with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Transportation Agency’s 2050 plan to create and maintain equitable transportation built on a foundation of safe communities. The city is currently working on a comprehensive plan and invites the public to attend its first meeting regarding community engagement. The meeting will be held at the Red Bank Community Center on March 14 at 6 p.m.
