CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Afternoon rainstorms gave way to a wonderful summer evening for Chattanooga Area Swim League action Thursday with Cleveland squads splitting key meets.
While the Waterdogs nipped the Wavemakers of the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club 404-384 on the southside of town at the Cleveland Community Center for their first victory of the season, the Aqua Tigers came up short in a 411-369 tally against the Red Bank Gators visited the Tinsley Park pool on the north end of town.
The Aqua Tigers (1-2) will head to Chattanooga Monday to battle White Division leader Big Ridge (3-0), while the Waterdogs (1-2) will trek to Calhoun (Ga.) Thursday to tangle with the Blue Barracudas (1-1) in Red Division action.
Calhoun will visit the CGCC Wavemakers (1-1) Monday, while Red Bank (3-1) will entertain the Cumberland Currents (1-2) Thursday.
WATERDOGS 404, WAVEMAKERS 384: Splitting the dozen divisions evenly, the score see-sawed throughout the meet with the hosts pulling out the victory with a 53-14 edge in the final Men 15 & Older bracket to hand CGCC it's first loss of the season.
Both teams got strong individual efforts from their top swimmers as 16 Wavemakers put up 242 points for better than 63% of their tally, while 17 Waterdogs countered with double digits for more than 58% of the team scoring.
Christian Chai and Lincoln Eberly put up "Perfect 19s" for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Evie Ranalli and Monna Yu pulled off a rare feat, both earning the most points possible in the same division — Girls 11-12 — for the visitors.
The Scenic City squad also got 19s from Cooper Brooks and Chamberlain Johnson.
The Waterdogs picked up 17 points apiece from Gracelyn Dauphinais, Carter Gray and Knox Berry to win their respective divisions.
Brooklyn Shumway topped the hometown effort in the Girls 11-12 with 15 points, while Zara DeBord, Harvey Eberly and Sam English put up 14 markers each.
Laura Ward, Elijah Bean and Ty Lauer added a dozen points apiece to the victor's tally.
The Waterdogs also got 11 points each from Zoe DeBord (to win the Girls 6-Under), Jackson Hicks, Charles Shumway and Kyle Cusion, plus 10 from Sofia Rullmann.
The Wavemaker picked up 17 points each from Blaire Card and Zuma Bentley, with Liam and Eliana Tabibiazar, plus Ronan Connellan notching 15 apiece.
Lucinda Ranalli and Callie Dake put 14 points on the scoreboard, with Gio Janini collecting 13.
The visitors got a dozen markers from Sofia Bell and Cana Basham, while Zeki House and Erik Jordan added 11 each.
GATORS 411, AQUA TIGERS 369: Red Bank powered to victory with 19 double-digit scorers, accounting for 276 points for an amazing 67.2% of its total.
Natalie Emerson, Caleb Grass and Maggie Rust each put up "Perfect 19s" for the visitors.
Audrey Mayo, Lilah Blanchard, Noah Blake and Addilyn Mayo put up 17 points each in the victory.
A trio of 15-point Gator performances came from Maddie Grass, Adli Bowlin and Benton Bilbrey, plus James Atchley had 14.
Jenna Thomas, Reid Corder and Caleb Ross collected 13 markers for the visitors, with Anne Catherine Atchley, Kaylee Woida and Luke Blake helping out with 11 each.
Layla Haynes and Ben Meager rounded out the Red Bank double-digit swimmers with 10 apiece.
With Kevin Curley leading the way with the maximum 19 markers, just over half (51.5%) of the CAT tally came from 14 swimmers, five of which only reached the 10-point mark.
The hosts also got 18 points from Jaxon Moseley, plus 17 Boone Bibee and Sophie Hughes.
Teddy Elliott and Palmer Blackmon put up 16 points apiece, with Reed Blackmon and Elias Eldred adding a baker's dozen (13) each.
Along with 11 points from Marian Christmann, the Aqua Tigers got 10 each from Wilder and Cedar Isham, Andrew Rutledge, Millie Wiseman and Jay Eldred.
