Sara Elizabeth Fields Ferguson
For those who knew and loved Sara: It is with a heavy heart that we share the peaceful passing of Sara Elizabeth Fields Ferguson, formerly of Signal Mountain, TN. She passed away at Chapman's Health Care in Alexander City, Alabama, on July 27, 2025, at the age of 82.
Sara was the cherished daughter of Henry and Mary Fields of Montgomery, Alabama. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Justin (Jud) Ferguson. Sara's memory will be carried on by her sister, Mary Ann Darby; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Kathy Ferguson, her daughters, Mary Ann Ferguson and Ellen (Brian) Bice; and her adored grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Bice and Robert Bice, along with several nieces and nephews.
Sara was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, where she attended Bellengrath School and Sidney Lanier High School before continuing her education at Auburn University and Huntington College. She met Jud when he was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery. They married in 1965, embarking on a life together that took them to Worcester, Massachusetts, then back to Montgomery in 1968, and finally, in 1976, to Signal Mountain, TN where they called home for 46 years.
Throughout her life, Sara embraced many roles and talents. She was first and foremost a devoted wife and mother who adored her family. Her diverse career path included working as a social worker, teaching preschool, and becoming a travel agent, where she planned incredible trips and was always seeking new adventures for her and Jud. She also pursued medical transcription, working for a physician group. Sara had a true passion for tennis, often found on the court or watching many tennis tournaments every summer. She also dedicated her time working at the Signal Mountain Library as well as the Ronald McDonald House at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
Sara also had a profound interest in genealogy, dedicating many years to researching her family history. She compiled extensive information and family pictures spanning generations, a legacy we will certainly treasure and hope to expand upon.
We are comforted knowing Sara is resting peacefully in heaven, reunited with all the beautiful souls she loved. We would like to thank Chapman's Healthcare and Enhabit Hospice in Alexander City, Alabama, for their wonderful care of Sara and their kind and loving support for our family during this time. A special thank you to Jill, Greta, Paula, and Geraldine for your loving care of Sara.
Sara had many beloved friends in the Signal Mountain, TN community, and we extend our love and thanks to all who loved her as we did. She very much loved her Signal Crest United Methodist Church family.
