State Rep. Dan Howell, R-Ocoee, today announced $97,500 in state funding for Meigs County to upgrade Ten Mile Park and Georgetown’s Eastview Park.
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) will administer the grant through the Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF), which was approved by members of the 114th General Assembly in the 2025-26 state budget.
“Meigs County’s natural beauty and friendly atmosphere make it an exceptional place to live, work and raise a family,” said Howell. “This significant grant will be used to enhance Ten Mile Park and Eastview Park into areas that all residents and visitors can enjoy. I’m grateful to the local leaders who worked diligently to secure this funding and I look forward to the completion of these projects.”
The LPRF grant will be used to install complete playground structures at the two parks. The funding will also help the county construct a walking trail at Eastview Park.
The state’s funding matches local government investments to help expand access to outdoor opportunities and improve quality of life for Tennesseans. City and county governments can receive LPRF grants for trail development and capital projects in parks, greenways and natural areas. Additionally, the funds can be used to purchase land for eligible projects.
More than $22 million was administered to 33 communities across the state by TDEC through the LPRF program, the Tennessee Recreation Initiative Program (TRIP) and the Recreational Trails Program (RTP).
