CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Overcoming a triple-digit heat index and a tough 24-team field, Signal Mountain soared away with a pair of championship trophies from the 11th annual Bradley/Don Burke Invitational to open the TSSAA golf season.

The Eagles posted an even-par 288 a 15-shot win over Walker Valley (303), while the Lady Eagles held off host Bradley Central (157) by just seven strokes with a 6-over-par 150 two-player tally.

Signal Mountain teammates Sam Otwell and Henry Beasley topped the boys tote board with 2-under 70s, the former taking the low medalist honor in a one-hole playoff.

Otwell sank five birdie putts on the front nine, including four in a row, for a 5-under 31 at the turn, but bogeyed three of the final five holes in regulation, allowing Beasley, who bogeyed the opening hole, but fought back with 14 pars and a trio of birdies, to pull even with a three on the par-4 17th hole.

Cleveland sophomore Dalton Franklin also broke par with a 1-under 71, with a trio of birdies and a pair of bogeys, to go with 13 pars for third low medalist honors.

Signal Mountain's Brayden Helle, Brycen Blake, from Chattanooga Christian, and Walker Valley's Harrison Yost tied for fourth place 1-over 73s.

Mustang Malachi Maples fired a consistent round with 16 pars and a pair of bogeys to equal the output of Chattanooga Christian's Oliver Bean to tied for seventh place at 2-over 74s.

In the team competition, Chattanooga Christian came in third with a 308, while Cleveland was fourth at 318, edging East Hamilton by a single stroke. Baylor (325) and host Bradley (326) were also just one shot apart for sixth place.

In the girls bracket, although Alli Troxell, of Boyd-Buchanan, claimed low medalist honors with a 1-over 73, that included a pair of birdies, Signal Mountain teammates Maddie Odell and May May McGhee tied for second place with 3-over 75s to give the Lady Eagles the crown.

Both Lady Eagle linksters had a couple of birdies to counter five bogeys.

Bradley runner-up finish was highlighted by freshman Avery Chastain, who tied for fourth place with a 5-over 77 with a trio of birdies to go with a couple of bogeys and three "doubles" in her high school debut.

She had to settle for fifth low medalist honors after dropping a playoff with Baylor's Katie Grace Tuder.

CCS's Nora Strain finished sixth with a 79, while Bradley senior Colby Ann Turner capped the Bearette tally with a seventh place finish, shooting 80 with a birdie on the par 5, 514-yard sixth hole.

Baylor earned third place team honors when Caroline Au posted an 83 for a 160 team tally.
