Bryan Announces 2024 Commencement Speakers

Bryan College announces the speakers for the 2024 Spring Commencement Ceremony scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 4 at 9:30 a.m. The event will be held on the Triangle Lawn on Bryan Hill.

Rick Efird, ’74 – Golden Grad Speaker:
Dr. Rick Efird, the director of church partnerships at Phoenix Seminary, has been selected as the Golden Grad Speaker for the upcoming commencement. With over 40 years of pastoral experience, Dr. Efird brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to the ceremony.
A Bryan College alumnus himself, Dr. Efird obtained his bachelor of arts degree, majoring in biology, before pursuing further studies in pastoral ministry and theology. He has dedicated his life to empowering and equipping other leaders for effective ministry, both domestically and internationally. Dr. Efird and his wife, Emily, celebrating 50 years of marriage, are esteemed members of the Bryan College community.

Emily Pemberton, ’24 – Commencement Student Speaker:
Emily Pemberton, a shining example of dedication and academic excellence, will serve as one of the student speakers at this year's commencement. After earning her associate degree in radiologic technology, she continued her education through Bryan College's online program, obtaining both her bachelor's and now a master's degree in business administration. Her focus on healthcare and commitment to women's services make her an inspiring voice for her fellow graduates. Ms. Pemberton resides on Sequatchie Mountain in Marion County with her husband, Brodey.

Alyssa Karnes, ’24 – Commencement Student Speaker:
Alyssa Karnes, graduating with a major in biopsychology and minors in communications and Biblical
studies, represents the diverse talents and passions within the Bryan College community. As she navigates post-graduation plans, Ms. Karnes reflects on her time as a soccer goalkeeper and the invaluable support of her teammates and the college community. Her gratitude and optimism shine through as she looks toward the future with anticipation.
