  • Wednesday, January 29, 2025

The PAR Foundation, a Chattanooga based non-profit, is providing national resources to address spiritual crisis and emergencies to Erlanger’s Clinical Pastoral Education students and Chaplain staff.

The product of over 30+ years of research, networking, consulting and teaching by Sam D. Bernard, PhD, emergency management psychologist, the resources provide traditional philosophical and theological foundations coupled with current research and field-work insights. The resources are constantly updated to maintain relevancy and applicability in the ever-changing world. A database is provided via Google Share for immediate and continual access from anywhere while preserving natural resources (paper).

This project of the John D. Martin, Ed.D. & Malcolm Seheult, PhD, JD Institute for Spiritual Crisis Education of the PAR Foundation is dedicated to advancing the awareness and knowledge of spiritual crisis and addressing such in a professional, realistic and compassionate manner. Dr. Martin was a graduate of Baylor University in counselor education and devoted his life to counseling, teaching and Christianity. He retired from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tn.

Dr. Seheult holds a PhD in Education and a JD. He continues to practice focusing on immigration law. He is president of GR3 International, a Florida based non-profit focusing on training, education and sustainability after natural disasters globally.

Dr. Bernard completed a post-doctoral residency in Trauma Psychology with Erlanger’s Trauma Services in the late 1990s. During that time, he began providing seminars for the Clinical Pastoral Education students from the Chattanooga Association for Clinical Pastoral Education program based at Erlanger Medical Center. Dr. Bernard has also served on the CACPE Board of Directors. He continues educating CACPE students.

Ryan Glass, manager of Spiritual Care and Chaplin Services with Erlanger Medical Center accepts wallet cards that provide access to the Spiritual Crisis and Emergency resources via a QR Code from Sam D. Bernard, PhD, Emergency Management Psychologist, PAR Foundation. The wallet card provides access to the Google Share for Spiritual Crisis & Emergency Resources from anywhere and anytime – a project of the PAR Foundation.
