State Rep. Dan Howell, R-Cleveland, has been appointed by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve on the Executive Committee of the Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South).

The organization serves elected and appointed officials in Southern state governments by providing resources and services and enhancing regional cooperation. It is the largest of four regions operating under the Council of State Governments, which hosts the annual Southern Legislative Conference of state legislators.

“I’m incredibly honored to have been appointed to serve on this committee and I thank Speaker Sexton for his confidence in me,” Howell said. “The Council of State Governments plays a vital role in helping states run smoothly through leadership development, effective collaboration and an exchange of ideas. I’m eager to join lawmakers from across the region to find ways to continue delivering meaningful results for our states.”

As a member of the CSG South Executive Committee, Howell will represent Tennessee’s interests by providing input and voting on official policy positions of the Southern Legislative Conference. He will also vote on committee leadership roles and attend Committee sessions and business meetings.

“Chairman Howell’s appointment to the CSG South Executive Committee is a well-earned recognition of his dedication and leadership,” said Speaker Sexton. “His commitment to serving Tennessee and the entire region is undeniable, and I have no doubt he will provide valuable insight and represent us well.”

Howell, a former television news anchor and managing editor, has represented District 22 in the House of Representatives since 2013. He is serving his third term as chair of the House Transportation Committee.

Howell will serve a two-year term on the Executive Committee ending Nov. 3, 2026.

State Rep. Dan Howell represents House District 22, which includes Meigs, Polk and part of Bradley counties.
