Catoosa County residents who want to dispose of scrap tires at no cost can drop them off on Tire Amnesty Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Public Works facility, 912 Shope Ridge Road in Ringgold.
Tire Amnesty Day is made possible through Scrap Tire Abatement Reimbursement (STAR) grants from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). The grants help offset the cost of collecting and transporting scrap tires to an EPD approved processing or recycling facility.
Normally the cost of dropping off tires at the Catoosa County Transfer Station is $7.40 to $14.80 per tire.
The guidelines for Catoosa County’s Tire Amnesty Day are:
•12 tires per vehicle limit;
•Tires must be dismounted from vehicle, dry, free of mud/debris;
•Tires up to 20” wheel diameter are eligible;
•No commercial truck, tractor or heavy equipment tires;
•Available for Catoosa County residents only (must show driver’s license);
•Not available to commercial businesses; and
•Participants must unload their own tires.
“We are grateful for the support from our partners at EPD,” said Public Works Projects Supervisor Alex Wooten. “Our aim is to provide an incentive for our neighbors with scrap tires to bring them to our Transfer Station and prevent them from being discarded in our ditches and along roadsides.”
