Mocs Track And Field Compete At Emory's Thrills In The Hills Meet

  • Sunday, March 30, 2025

-- In a weekend that saw a limited squad compete, the Chattanooga Mocs women’s outdoor track and field team won races, heats and set personal bests along the way at the Emory University Thrills in the Hills meet in Atlanta Saturday.

“It was good to put our people in a lowkey environment while still having to go through their warmup/cooldown routines that they have to do on more challenging competition days,” Mocs assistant coach Patrick Gildea said.

“Stella [Henry] continued her podium ways, finishing runner-up in the long jump. Ava [McGue] nailed her final jump while Norah [Haney] landed a new PB at 4.81 (15-9.25) with her efforts today. This long jump group is a solid 1-2-3 punch.”

Henry just missed her personal best with a leap of 5.65 meter (18’ 6.5”) while Haney hit hers, outdoing the mark she set at the Lee University Invitational.

Leah Boyd cruised to the win in the women’s 3000 meter run with her closest competitor nearly 16 seconds behind her.

Also claiming a win was Lexi Foley in the 1500 meter run. She paced the group with a time of 4:54.19 with teammate Ellie von Herrmann taking second after winning her heat with a personal best time of 5:02.38.

“Leah and Lexi picked up overall wins in the 3000m and 1500m respectively,” Gildea continued. “Ellie won her heat in a PB and finished runner up to Foley. Anna [Roberson], Olivia [Steele] and EV [McGowan] all set new PBs in the 1500m as well.”

The Mocs 4x100 meter team finished sixth overall with a solid 49.16 and the same team won the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:46.55.

“In the 4x100m, Sarah, Ava, Norah and Ryleigh ran a quick time finishing in 49.16,” Gildea said. “This same crew ran a solid 4x200m to grab the overall win.”

Ryleigh Simmons finished just out of qualifying in the 100 meter run, but set a personal best in the dash.

“Ryleigh rolled to a new PB at 12.20 and missed out on the final by a spot in the 100m,” Gildea said. “Taylor got out well in the 800m and is going hammer one home here soon.

“Some athletes were held out this weekend in Atlanta so we're really looking forward to adding them back into the mix while we continue to make progress throughout the season. We competed today and that was our objective going into the meet. This group performed well even with a few hiccups throughout the day. I am proud how they maintain composure in those situations. We'll take Sunday to rest and regroup Monday and prep for the week ahead.”

Up next on the slate for the Running Mocs is the Tennessee Invite April 4-5 in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Tom Black Track.
