Brass Register Closes Doors

  • Thursday, December 23, 1999

The Brass Register restaurant, a longtime fixture at Fountain Square, has closed its doors.

Mark Smith, the current owner, recently informed workers that he was shutting the business located across from the County Courthouse.

The Brass Register had operated for over 25 years. Mr. Smith had acquired it last September.

The owner of the property, Fred Robinson, said he expects another restaurant will open at the site on Georgia Avenue.

Officials said the Chattanooga restaurant district has shifted from the Georgia Avenue area to downtown near the river.

David's Restaurant nearby on Vine Street recently shut its doors.

Yesterdays on Georgia Avenue closed earlier.

The restaurant had been built around the theme of a brass cash register and other features of a turn-of-the-century dining establishment.
