The Hamilton County Genealogical Society has 1860 Hamilton County census CDs available now.
Dennis Wilson, president, said, "The 1860 Hamilton County census CDs have just arrived from S-K Publications.
The HCGS had these census CDs specially produced by S-K to offer them to our members.
"If you didn't pre-order your CD, we still have several available for you to purchase.
"I have personally viewed the CD and can say that the images are excellent. They are much better than viewing on a microfilm reader. With the imaging software included on the CD (Imaging for Windows), you can zoom in on the images and get a really close up look. You can also view the images with just about any imaging software. The images are printable on 8-1/2 X 11 or 8-1/2 X
14 paper and the print quality is very good. The CD also includes a map of the 1860 Hamilton County Civil Districts.
"The census taker who did Hamilton County could actually write! I think it is some of the best handwriting I've seen. There are of course the occasional inkblots, smudges and sloppy spots of penmanship, but overall the handwriting is very readable.
"The CD does not include an index. However, I am in the process of
transcribing one for the HCGS web site. It should be on-line in a few days. Being able to zoom in on the images has made this process go a lot faster.
"If you would like to get a copy of this census CD, you can order it from the HCGS web site for $20 plus $2.95 S&H. It is listed in the “Publications” section on the site. If all goes well, plans are in the works to have other census years produced for the HCGS.
"I also want to thank all of you for your hard work and the tons of
information you have submitted to the web site. I have received dozens of
e-mails praising your contributions and our site. We are rapidly becoming THE source of information for Hamilton County. Keep up the good work!"
