"Barn Burner" At Lula Lake Memorial Day Weekend

  • Friday, May 3, 2002

The Lula Lake Land Trust will host "The Barn Burner" Memorial Day weekend, and will feature entertainment and food. Randall Bramblett, a first-rate rock & roll blues singer from Athens, GA, will headline the outdoor concert held at the Lula Lake Land Trust on Saturday, May 25, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Local musicians Letty & Georgia and The 5 Unfortunate Pickers featuring Matthew Nicely, will join in for a full evening of fun music. Limited ticket numbers are available and advance purchases recommended. Adults are $25; children ages 6 to 12 are $5, and children 5 and under are free. Dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The concert and dinner will benefit the Lula Lake Land Trust and its efforts to protect property, promote conservation research and provide educational programming in the beautiful landscape surrounding Lula Lake and Lula Falls on Lookout Mountain. Tickets include a catered Buck's Barbeque dinner and Big River Grille & Brewing Works will debut its special "Barn Burner Ale" at the event. Come early to see the Trust's spectacular sites or to hike on over eight miles of trails, said officials.

Barn Burner sponsors include Alexian Brothers, Fletcher Bright Company, SunTrust Bank, Gordons Cleaners, Lupi's Pizza Pies, Citizens Bank & Trust, Potts Brothers Land & Auction and Brock Insurance Agency. The following will provide additional help with the event: The Johnson Group, Atomic Films, Talk Radio 102.3 FM, Big River Grille & Brewing Works, Buck's Barbeque, Clumpies Ice Cream and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Chattanooga.

Randall Bramblett, has been around long enough to know what excellence in music really means. A multi instrumental side-man with heavy credits (Sea Level, Widespread Panic, Robbie Robertson, Gregg Allman, and Government Mule), Bramblett knows it takes more than that to make great albums. According to Bob Berry of REM, "Randall Bramblett is the most talented and prolific songwriter I have the privilege of knowing." And Rolling Stone magazine calls Randall Bramblett "...one of the South's most lyrical and literate songwriters."

Letty & Georgia, described as a high-powered, hillbilly-rockin' alternative country band, has toured extensively throughout the West and Southeast opening shows for Doc Watson, Sam Bush, Lucinda Williams, BR549, Marshall Tucker, David Wilcox, Don McLean and many others. Their live performance has been characterized as "Hot Tickets" (Piccolo Spoleto, Charleston, SC), "A Class Act" (Riverbend, Chattanooga) and The Jackson Hole Skier implores folks to "search out Letty & Georgia for maximum vocal energy."

The 5 Unfortunate Pickers are a Chattanooga-based bluegrass group featuring Matthew Nicely, Patrick Dugan, Steve Holder, Rob Rittenberry, Seth Hutcheson, and occasional guest Louie Wamp. With influences ranging from Doc Watson to John Hartford, their music appeals to a wide group of music lovers.

To get to the Lula Lake Land Trust from Chattanooga, take Hwy. 58
South from St. Elmo up Lookout Mountain to a T-intersection with Lula Lake Road, turn left (south) and go 5 miles to a parking area marked on the right. Guests will be shuttled to the event site.
